Perhaps Arsenal's biggest task this summer is finding someone who can replace Aaron Ramsey sufficiently and make him someone they remember, rather than someone they miss in the middle of the pitch.

There is no doubt the task Unai Emery has ahead of him in trying to fill the boots that the Wales international has left in the wake of his move to Juventus is going to be easy and it is certainly a job that nobody would envy having - good luck Emery, we're rooting for you on this one!

Apparently, former Arsenal man Lauren appears to have an idea/suggestion about who he feels could fill the void that Ramsey leaves and it actually is not a bad thought, to be honest.

Speaking to bwin ahead of Cameroon's Africa Cup of Nations, the retired right-back (he is 42-years-old now), stated that he felt Mario Gotze could be a good replacement for the Welshman.

"Mario Gotze is also another very good player that has been linked with Arsenal and he could do a great job at replacing Ramsey in Arsenal’s midfield," he said.

Now, why would a move for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder help to make the absence of Ramsey a little easier for Arsenal fans to digest? Well, taking a look at his current situation and statistics might actually help to back up Lauren's claims.

Starting with the scenario he finds himself at BVB this summer, the 27-year-old could actually be open to a move away from the Bundesliga outfit. The arrivals of Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard are going to have intensified the competition for places by ten-fold and the World Cup winner may decide it best to seek pastures new. Perhaps a challenge in England could appeal to him?

Indeed, that could all be considered speculation and might not necessarily help to solve the void that Ramsey leaves Arsenal, however, his statistics go a long way into backing up why Lauren feels Gotze could be an excellent replacement.

Using the data collected by WhoScored, the £22.5million rated midfielder (Transfermarkt) seems to have been able to record almost identical figures.

Gotze recorded seven goals and seven assists in his 26 Bundesliga appearances, which is slightly better than Ramsey's six and four in 28 Premier League matches. The Welshman may have edged the shots per game average (1.2 to 1.1) and successful pass percentage stats (82% and 81.5%), but those two more fixtures may have helped give him the overall edge.

Going by the stats, not a lot appears to be able to separate them, although the honours on the pitch fall heavily in the German's favour. As we mentioned, he already has a World Cup, but he also has five Bundesliga titles and five German Cups, so perhaps he could bring a winning mentality to the side that Arsenal have been lacking over the years.

Maybe Gotze would also fit the style of play at the Emirates Stadium as well? Considering that he is quick, has sharp dribbling and passing skills, he could be the player to help unlock a new and much-needed dimension in Emery's midfield.

Bearing all that information in mind, perhaps it would be worth Emery listening to the former Arsenal man's transfer advice after all.
