Arsenal supporters have struggled to watch their defence at times this season, and a lot of that is down to Shkodran Mustafi. The German defender has been nothing short of pathetic this season, and now TEAMtalk report that Lewis Dunk could come to replace him.
The Gunners are supposedly set to rival Leicester City for the signing of the one-cap England man, and it’s not hard to see why the Brighton man is in demand. The Seagulls will not want to see their star defender leave, but he’s now being looked at as the man to end the Mustafi nightmare.
The defence at The Emirates has been nothing short of woeful for a number of seasons and it is very much up to Unai Emery to turn it around over the next few transfer windows. Dunk would be a great start in their pursuit of a defence that could get them back into the top four and the Champions League.
All you have to do is look at the stats to believe that too. According to WhoScored, Dunk only missed two games in the Premier League this season, and in his 36 appearances, the 27-year-old averaged 5.4 clearances, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 tackles per game, making him a unit that Emery could rely upon.
The only part where Dunk doesn’t look like such a great catch is the fact that Brighton supposedly want to pocket a fee of £30 million for the English defender. He has a Transfermarkt valuation of just £10.8m, yet the level of his performances have justified the extra £20m thrown in, and now it’s just up to Emery to see if he can part with the money to bring in the stopper.
