Arsenal fans leapt from their seats in the Transfer Tavern this morning when they heard news regarding a deal for a striker, although they were disappointed to hear it’s not a new signing.
The Daily Mirror report Chuba Akpom is set to join Championship promotion chasers Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season, due to a lack of first-team opportunities on his plate in North London.
Akpom’s only appearance for Arsenal this season came in the EFL Cup victory over Nottingham Forest and his chances aren’t likely to improve in the second-half of the campaign; as the Gunners boast the likes of Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott.
Instead, Akpom, who has previously spent time with Hull City, will join the Championship leaders to help Chris Hughton’s side seal the promotion to the Premier League that they narrowly missed out on in the final day of last season.
Aston Villa were also reportedly keen on Akpom’s services but our landlord believes Brighton is the right club for him and hopes to see him shine.
A handful of Seagulls fans here in the Transfer Tavern think that Akpom would be an astute signing for the club, especially if Glenn Murray picks up an injury in the coming weeks.
