Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been caught off guard today as news has made it’s way to the Landlord, that the Gunners have made a surprise approach for 21-year-old Japanese striker, Takuma Asano.
One of the bar staff picked up a Metro this morning and saw reports that Arsenal have made an approach for the Japanese international, a move that not many people saw coming. Wenger will be wanting to bolster his options up front with the only out-and-out striker in the squad being the alarmingly inconsistent Frenchman, Olivier Giroud.
Asano currently plays for J-League Champions, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and has scored 11 goals in 56 appearances for the club, since making his debut last year.
A few of the Gunners fans in the bar have been getting excited about the possibility of Arsene Wenger unearthing an Asian wonderkid, however, our more prudent Landlord was quick to remind them that this isn’t the Gunners’ manager’s first foray into the Eastern markets, and his previous attempts have been less than fruitful.
Arsenal fans, what do you think? Will Asano continue the trend and be just as disappointing as the likes of Ryo Miyaichi? Let us know below!
