Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy end to the transfer window, as Arsene Wenger aims to trim the deadwood from his squad.
The majority of fans believe it’s a wise decision to axe the likes of Lucas Perez, Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson from their ranks, as they’re clearly surplus to requirements, but they’re arguing that Jack Wilshere should remain at the Emirates Stadium.
The rise of the England international in North London caught the eye of many but his development has suffered due to consistent injury problems, the most recent of which ended a successful loan stint with Bournemouth prematurely and led him to miss the entirety of pre-season.
Wilshere made his return in an Arsenal shirt this week by playing for the U23’s but we may have seen the last of him in the first-team, as he’s already entered the final 12 months of his contract and has fallen way down the pecking order.
Whilst this suggests Wilshere’s time may be up, there’s no denying the ability of the 25-year-old midfielder and Arsenal may find it beneficial to hand their academy graduate one final chance this season, as they’ll have a real asset on their hands if he can shake off his injury problems.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has already set a precedent by becoming an established part of Arsenal’s first-choice line-up since the back-end of last season, when the former Southampton man shook off his own regular injury problems.
Should Wilshere do the same, he could prove to be a tremendous asset to Arsenal this season and could spark a change in the Gunners set-up, potentially allowing Aaron Ramsey to thrive in a role just behind the striker.
