The manager has claimed that the club never wanted young starlet Wilfried Zaha – convenient really considering Manchester United are about to land the player. Wenger of course has long been cautious in transfer widows, seeing more top players depart than arrive. Whilst the club have billed the contract renewal of Theo Walcott as a new signing, they are slipping further away in the race for a top four spot and fans want something to change.
The Frenchman today claimed at a press conference that despite being heavily linked to the Palace sensation: “We were never in for Zaha. I don’t know if he will go to Man United. If he goes to Man United, good luck to him.”
Given that Arsenal fans now not only have to watch as their former star players light up the likes of Manchester City, United and Barcelona, this latest failure in the transfer market will not sit too well at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger may claim that being in the top four is like winning a trophy, but currently it does not even look like that is about to happen.
