Arsenal open initial talks with defender despite £7m failure, will battle with fellow Premier League giants

Our Arsenal fans in the the Transfer Tavern have been accustomed to seeing their club remain almost entirely dormant in the market over the past few years, though like that old saying about a London bus, two come along at once.

While the punters in tonight are waxing lyrical over a certain Granit Xhaka, who looks increasingly likely to arrive this summer, reports from Football Insider suggest the Gunners could be about to land another star.

They claim that the North London side have opened initial talks with Leicester City over promising young full-back Ben Chilwell, despite reported interest from rivals Liverpool.

The 18-year old defender is a highly rated prospect, though is entering the final 12 months on his deal with the Premier League champions as interest in him begins to grow.

It is believed that Arsene Wenger saw a £7m deal rejected for the England under-20 international in January, though is ready to reignite interest following doubts about the future of England international Kieran Gibbs.

The academy graduate was linked with a move to Newcastle United, though it is doubtful he will make a move to Tyneside following their relegation.

Is Chilwell worth the hype? Would he really be an upgrade on Gibbs?
