Arsenal: Pablo Fornals a much more Emery-type version of Mesut Ozil

If Sunday’s showcase was any proof, it’s that Mesut Ozil’s probably lost his majestic voodoo at Arsenal.

Another disappointing performance against a big side didn’t please Unai Emery, who seems fed up by his lazy behaviour and lack of urgency on the pitch.

Emery probably wants an upgrade over the underperforming German and could find one from his homeland itself. Indeed, according to reports via The Express, the Gunners are looking to sign Villarreal Pablo Fornals.

A technical talent, the midfielder’s been a bright spark in somewhat of a disappointing season for the Yellow Submarine.

The 23-year-old’s been key to controlling their midfield, with his clever distribution often causing the little chances they manage every game. Fornals might not have scored nor assisted much, but his contribution towards knitting together moves is fantastic.

A highly creative figure, Fornals ability to open up defences and fling forward beautiful passes is admirable.

A breakout star for Villarreal this season, Fornals has recorded an impressive 77.6% average passing accuracy and 1.4 key passes per game. Not only that, but the hard-working Spaniard’s recorded 1.4 tackles per game as well (stats via WhoSored). Not only is Fornals a really clever attacker, but a persistent midfielder who works hard towards winning back possession.

He could blend the Arsenal lineup perfectly, helping Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi with controlling possession as well as creating majestic chances for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The deal will surely rest on Ozil, who’s currently sitting on a huge wage, as ideally, Emery would want to replace the misfiring German with the clever Spaniard in the summer. If they do, Arsenal could be turbo-charged.
