Arsenal plotting PL-record-smashing deal amid Sanchez contract saga

Arsenal are ready to make Alexis Sanchez the highest-paid player in Premier League history with a £300,000-per-week contract as they set about making a late play to keep the Chilean at the Emirates Stadium, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The 28-year-old attacker’s future at the club has been debated endlessly here in the Transfer Tavern and with reports from El Mercurio and Directv Sports from his Chilean homeland this week having alleged that he’s not happy where he is and tempted by a Manchester City move, fans were growing resigned to losing him.

The ex-Barcelona man has been involved in a stand-off with the club as they attempt to negotiate fresh terms with him, leaving him just a matter of months away from being in the final year of his deal with them.

Alas, LES are now reporting that Arsenal are so desperate to keep Sanchez that they’ve offered him a salary of £300,000-per-week to stay put, which is £10,000-per-week more than the division’s highest-earner, Paul Pogba at Manchester United, pockets.

The player has not yet responded to the proposal, but he’s already claimed that he’s “happy” in London, so there’s a chance that a mega wage could ease his fears about the team’s lack of competitiveness on the pitch this season.

Alexis Sanchez needs to leave Arsenal – agree?
