Real Madrid have offered Arsenal the chance to sign Mariano Diaz this summer, according to a report by the Daily Star.
It is claimed that the Gunners’ pursuit of Lucas Vazquez has presented the opportunity of bringing the Dominican Republic international to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are believed to have been sounded out by the La Liga giants as they look to offload their 25-year-old misfit for around £18million; something that Unai Emery has not completely dismissed.
Real Madrid are desperate to offload players this summer after spending big and Diaz is just a number of men who are deemed surplus to requirements under Zinedine Zidane.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Arsenal’s transfer budget is thought to stand at just £45m this summer, leaving Unai Emery with a difficult task on his hands.
However, a cut-price £18m deal for Diaz could be something of a shrewd signing for the north London outfit. Following Danny Welbeck’s departure, Arsenal are lacking depth up top with just Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to call upon (although Emery is believed to be prepared to listen to offers for the latter (as per 90min).
Despite not getting the opportunities at Real Madrid, the 25-year-old proved he could find the back of the net on a consistent basis during his time with Olympique de Lyonnais, as he struck 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions for the French outfit (Transfermarkt).
With other areas of the field arguably a priority, it will be interesting to see if Emery looks to make a move for Diaz as £18m could be a steal for a player of his ability.
