Arsenal remain keen on big signing though one condition is currently preventing it

There were plenty of reasons to be cheerful and fearful in equal measure for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern.

While their attacking play managed to win their season opener against Leicester City in the end, defensive frailty was far too evident. Again.

So, while there are plenty of sources of optimism for the Gunners, those propping up our bar are eager to see Arsene Wenger add to his squad before now and the end of the summer.

Which is why reports from Sky Sports have proved relatively frustrating. In their Transfer Centre (11:31), they claim Le Prof remains keen on signing Thomas Lemar, though Monaco are reportedly adamant they won’t sell.

The Frenchman is understood to have been the subject of two snubbed bids from the Emirates so far this summer and, while they are still said to be keen, may have to wait on a move.

Arsenal’s priority is reported to have turned to cutting down the numbers in their squad, much to the frustration of our locals. They understand players must be sold, but not much looks like happening on that front right now, so believe Arsenal are at a relative impasse.

Landlord’s Verdict:

It’s imperative Arsenal shift some of the deadwood in their squad. Right now, there are far too many passengers on their books and trimming some of the fat would give them both a financial and mental boost, as Arsene Wenger looks to mount a genuine title tilt.
