Arsenal fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their emphatic 5-1 win over Everton will springboard a surge towards a Champions League spot, as anything other than a top-four finish will be seen as a disaster.
The Gunners have been far from their best this season, as inconsistencies continue to halt their progress. Indeed, after the pandemonium of Arsene Wenger missing out on Champions League for the first time in his 20 years with the club, a repeat could dampen their hopes of adding to the brilliance of their squad with no European pulling power to be had. Although, with it looking unlikely that they’ll force a top-four place, according to reports in the Mirror, Arsenal are keen on signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
Arsenal are looking to relive the glory of yesteryear as recent times under Arsene Wenger just don’t have the same feel to that of the Invincibles. And, with their January signings already manufacturing a goal and assists for the Gunners, the Frenchman is already eyeing up some reinforcements in the summer.
The Ivory Coast star has been the standout player for the Eagles so far this season, as the 25-year-old’s brilliance has seen him draw the attention from four of the Premier League’s top-six clubs. Indeed, the stats only go to further back the quality of the attacker, as Palace are yet to win a league fixture without Zaha since September 2016. The kind of player that could quite easily secure the Gunners a Champions League spot next season, with his pace and trickery potentially helping form a deadly partnership alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Wilfried Zaha is an incredible player that Arsenal should do everything in their will to capture, one of the most difficult customers in the Premier League that’s caused even the best defences all sorts of problems. Indeed, after seeing their January signings already have a huge impact on proceedings, it’s clear to see that the recruitment process in North London is something the club should look to revisit in the summer.
