Arsenal reportedly ‘optimistic’ over deal after lucrative offer

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern really could do with some cheering up right now after a largely awful performance vs Stoke City on the weekend.

Indeed, the same sort of problems the Gunners propping up the bar have lamented both often and loudly over the years were still painfully evident on Saturday evening.

So, at least reports from the Daily Star have cheered our north London locals up somewhat.

They claim top brass at the Emirates are set to offer England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a much-improved deal at the club. His current contract is due to expire next summer and he’s been linked with a move to Chelsea as a result.

The Gooners are understood to have offered him a deal worth less than £100k-p/w, one that reportedly left 23-year-old relatively unimpressed with the club.

However, Arsenal are now said to be optimistic the former Southampton youngster will agree to it and stay with the club in the long-term, rather than move on to a Premier League rival.

Having been impressed with his conversion to a wing-back, our north London locals are happy with this news.

Landlord’s Verdict:

‘The Ox’ is a huge talent and, while he may have struggled for first-team minutes over the years, now looks like a genuine fixture in the starting XI.

He’ll only improve and watching him develop elsewhere would be gutting, so the fact he could now stay is massive for Arsenal.
