The German defender is thought to be unwanted at Arsenal, with there thought to be no problem in attempting to find a deal with the north London club.
The Italian publication are reporting (via The Sun) that Arsenal are willing to loan out the defender with an option to buy, with the price set between €20m and €25m (roughly £18.3m and £22.9m respectively).
Mustafi currently earns €3m (roughly £2.7m) at the north London side, a figure in line with the parameters set in Trigoria.
Mustafi has been much maligned during his time at Arsenal with fans and pundits alike blasting the central defenders. Indeed, the 27-year-old was booed by fans prior to coming on in the Emirates Cup game versus Olympique Lyonnais.
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher was far from complimentary of the Germany international as he tore the defender to shreds after his performance at home to Crystal Palace.
He said: “I wasn’t surprised by this [Mustafi] – he’s been a mess since he joined the club really and this is another example of it. He’s at fault for the second goal as well.” (Source: The Metro)
Mustafi has suffered during his time at Arsenal, and a sale to Roma would be the best option for both parties. Early in the summer transfer window, it was reported by BBC’s David Ornstein that Unai Emery had enough of Mustafi and wanted him sold.
Mustafi’s defensive statistics aren’t the greatest when analysed. The 27-year-old is quite rash in the centre of defence, having made the fourth-most fouls per game last season in the Premier League (1.4) and the fifth-most in the Europa League (1.3).
A move away would suit both Arsenal and Mustafi. With him yet to make an appearance for Arsenal this season, it’s clear that he is not in Emery’s plan for the campaign ahead.
