Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are under no illusion that their club has a lot of work to do this summer, with a wealth of first-team stars linked with a potential exit.
The Gunners have not made it easy for themselves as the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all rapidly approaching the final 12 months of their contract, although Arsene Wenger is set to move to secure the future of the latter.
The Daily Mirror states Arsenal will initiate contract talks in the next fortnight to secure the future of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, following the starring performances of the England international in recent months.
The former Southampton man has shown his versatility this season by impressing on the wings and in central midfield, whilst he’s displayed Man of the Match performances in Arsenal’s last two games playing in a wing-back role.
Arsenal are now prepared to hand Oxlade-Chamberlain a deal that will raise his contract over the £100k-a-week mark, putting him in-line with some of the highest earners at the Emirates Stadium.
Whilst our landlord believes this is a significant move, he doesn’t feel Oxlade-Chamberlain will remain amongst the highest earners for long as the Gunners will have to adjust their wage structure this summer to keep the likes of Alexis and Ozil or sign replacements.
Is Oxlade-Chamberlain deserving of his new deal? Let us know in the comments below!
