Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern cannot get over what happened in the summer window with their club and you can certainly understand why.
The Gunners just did not perform well at all in the market in another damning indication that they were going to struggle this season and now they must make do with what they’ve got.
For sure, they still need to strengthen their defence – their start to the season has proved that – whilst they also need more guts in midfield – their loss to Liverpool particularly demonstrated that.
Certainly, then, Arsene Wenger had a shocker for the club this summer in not managing to address these glaring weaknesses and he, like many other managers, also dropped a clanger in not managing to get Renato Sanches.
Indeed, the Portuguese international signed for Swansea on loan in a scarcely believable deal which prompted this question – amongst others – why haven’t one of the ‘big boys’ gone in for him.
Sure, he struggled for Bayern Munich last year but they are on a different level to most sides – even Arsenal – and that cannot and should not take away from the fact he’s a very talented player.
Indeed, he blasts past players in the middle of the pitch and really dominates the field when he’s firing on all cylinders – something Arsenal are really crying out for.
Instead, though, Arsene Wenger missed the boat, and we could see him pay for it once again this year.
