Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing up for a busy end to the summer market, as they believe there will be plenty of activity surrounding their side.
Arsene Wenger has made it clear he will trim his squad over the final few weeks and get rid of those surplus to requirements but there’s also situations going on that he’s not keen on, including widespread interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Arsenal are insisting they will not sell the England international but they run the risk of losing the former Southampton man on a free transfer next year, as his deal has entered it’s final 12 months and he’s shown no signs of being willing to extend.
Losing Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a massive blow considering the faith they’ve put in him during his injury problems but he’s by no means irreplaceable and the ideal replacement may well be available on the market this month.
Following the capture of Neymar from Barcelona on a world-record fee, it has been suggested that long-term Arsenal target Julian Draxler is now surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain; presenting the ideal opportunity for Arsene Wenger.
At 23, Draxler still has his best years ahead of him and he’d certainly be seen as a direct replacement for Oxlade-Chamberlain. Some may even argue the German is a more superior player so it could end up being Arsenal that get the best end of the deal.
It’s certainly something for Arsenal to think about and would be a lot better than losing a top-class player without replacing them.
