Arsenal have suffered with damaging injuries throughout the campaign and even though we’re into a new year, the same old problems are apparent for the Gunners.
Hector Bellerin is the latest name out of action for Arsenal, only this time, he has been ruled out for the entire season, meaning Arsenal have even more problems defensively.
An already depleted squad could look further damaged without Hector Bellerin in there, seeing as Unai Emery is now left with Stephan Lichtsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Carl Jenkinson.
Those three options simply aren’t good enough to help Arsenal achieve their goal of finishing in the top four but potentially signing one of the brightest, up-and-coming right-backs in football would.
Namely, a man Arsenal and other Premier League sides have been linked with, Atletico Mineiro’s Emerson.
Emerson, (who is valued at just £45k on Transfermarkt) only arrived at Atletico Mineiro in April but already, he has been touted (according to Mundo Deportivo) by a number of teams from around Europe, such has been his quality on the pitch.
With 25 appearances to his name this season, the young 20-year-old has quickly become accustomed to the challenge of playing in the Brazilian league but it’s obvious to say that a move to Arsenal would be a lot more testing.
Although the Brazil U-20 international is contracted at the club until 2022, Arsenal should try to have Emerson in their back-line by the end of the transfer window, should Stan Kroenke finally realise how stretched his club is.
It would be a big risk but one that could pay off undoubtedly, judging by the ability he has shown on the pitch thus far.
