Arsenal switch attentions to Serie A giants in bid to land €40m prolific forward at last

Mauro Icardi

Though Jamie Vardy’s snub has no doubt cut the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern deep, those propping up the bar this evening have quickly moved on to scouring the net for further rumours and reports.

With both Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott failing to wholly convince in the central striking berths for the Gunners, the punters are desperate to see a new forward arrive.

So, imagine the delight as they stumbled across reports from InterLive.it claiming manager Arsene Wenger had turned his attentions to Inter Milan ace Mauro Icardi.

The Argentine has long been touted as a blockbuster target in the Premier League after his lethal form at the San Siro.

Still, talented as he is, the 22-year old has a history of falling out with Nerazzurri chief Roberto Mancini and was dropped for periods last season.

With that in mind, Wenger is believed to have cast his eyes over the former Sampdoria man’s situation in Italy, ahead of a potential €40m move.

Would Icardi be the best Vardy alternative?
