Arsenal could potentially strike gold with a move for Thomas Partey in the upcoming summer transfer window after Football Ghana reported that Atletico Madrid have found his possible replacement in Mauro Arambarri.
As per the outlet, Partey reportedly wants a move away from the Spanish capital to test his skills in the Premier League, with the north London club leading the race to signing him. The former UD Almeria loanee was offered a fresh deal by Atletico to extend his contract to 2025 but was unhappy with the terms, as his release clause stands at €50m (£44.87m).
The central midfielder is currently training with the rest of his team mates in preparation for the expected return of La Liga in June.
According to the report, Arambarri is expected to cost close to €20m (£17.95m), which could prove to be a decent piece of business given his comparative stats to Partey in the Spanish league. The Getafe man averages more interceptions, shots and crosses per game (via Whoscored).
Nevertheless, if Arambarri were to move to Atletico, then this could pave the way for Partey to join the Gunners. The Ghanaian international may be the answer to Arsenal’s holding midfield troubles as he has won 6.6 duels per La Liga match so far this season whilst also averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.2 clearances (per Sofascore).
Gooners may have to wait for the potential transfer of Arambarri to Atletico Madrid first, but it may be worth it if Mikel Arteta can persuade Partey to join up with his squad at the Emirates.
