Dani Ceballos could be heading back to Spain if reports about the 23-year-old are to be believed.
According to The Athletic, Valencia are hoping a deal can be reached to cut short Ceballos’ loan spell at Arsenal and bring him to the Mestalla. The north London outfit and parent club Real Madrid are both said to be reluctant to let the move take place, though it should not hurt the former too much if it does happen.
Ceballos has made little impact this season, starting just the seven matches in the Premier League. In that time, he has only registered two assists and has failed to score.
The Spaniard, however, has proven himself to be astute in possession, averaging a pass success rate of of 88.1% (via WhoScored). But with both Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi also averaging the same, it is not like Mikel Arteta is lacking midfielders who are adept on the ball.
Ultimately, from what has been on show so far, it can be argued that Ceballos has not really brought anything new to this Arsenal side. Furthermore, losing him does not look like it would have a huge impact on the Gunners’ campaign.
Arsenal look good in midfield. Rather, where issues could arise is up front. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona while the goals have dried up for Alexandre Lacazette.
Considering that, the priority surely has to be convincing the Gabon international to stay at the Emirates, not Ceballos.
