Wolfsburg hope to complete a loan move for Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe this week after holding positive discussions with the north London club, according to The Independent.
Smith Rowe suffered a groin injury which ruined his six-month loan spell at Red Bull Leipzig last season, however, he has now made a full recovery.
Wolfsburg’s sixth-place finish last season means they will compete in the Europa League next season. Werder Bremen have also made an attractive offer for the 19-year-old, however, the Wolves are thought to be the frontrunners to sign the youth star.
After a failed loan spell at RB Leipzig last season, where the England youth international only made three appearances, a move away may be needed to further enhance the youngster’s first-team experiences.
Despite the stop-start nature of last season, Smith Rowe showed his class as he starred for Arsenal in the Europa League. The youngster scored his two goals for the club away to Qarabag and Vorskla in just four games. Indeed, his ability to accept the ball and move it on is a particular strength of the youngster, who is built well to handle the physical nature of the game according to a scout report from the Daily Mail last year.
A move is just the thing Smith Rowe needs due to the lack of game time he’s likely to get at Arsenal. With Mesut Ozil and Dani Ceballos in attacking midfield and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and the potentially incoming Nicolas Pepe on the wings, competition for places at the Emirates really is fierce.
