Arsenal youngster Joel Lopez could be set to make his way into the club’s first team this season after he was included in the Europa League squad.
The former Barcelona player was included in Arsenal’s ‘A’ squad for the competition this campaign.
Lopez was a member of the famed La Masia academy at Barcelona. However, he left because the club had Juan Miranda, who is two years older than him, and one of the club’s options for the left-back role.
The 17-year-old followed the likes of Hector Bellerin, Jon Toral, Fran Merida and Cesc Fabregas in making the move from the Spanish club to north London.
The Spaniard has been featuring for the Arsenal youth sides quite heavily since his move from the coastal club and has made 15 appearances for the under-18 team (via Transfermarkt).
He has been rated quite highly by La Masia expert and Diario SPORT reporter Albert Roge, who said last year: “Joel is a left-back with a lot of future.”
“He loves to get forward and attack the penalty area. He combines very well with those inside him and has a good touch of the ball.”
“In defence he is intense and his speed helps him to correct his position when he makes a few mistakes. He is a player that coaches always like. Very discreet on and off the pitch and always good.” (Source: football.london)
With Arsenal having sold Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac proving ineffective for the club, according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, Lopez should be fast-tracked into the first-team this season.
