Arsenal are yet to make a signing this transfer window, yet it already feels like the club have been linked with every possible player out there.
As deals for Kieran Tierney (BBC Sport) and William Saliba (ESPN) continue to drag out, it’s looking likely that defenders are a top priority for Unai Emery this summer, which is understandable given how poor the Gunners were last season as the north London club failed to finish in the Premier League top-four as well as embarrass themselves in the Europa League final.
And as David Ornstein confirmed on BBC Radio 5 Live that Emery has placed Shkodran Mustafi on the transfer list. As a result, Arsenal fans may have grown optimistic that real change could be done this summer, when you consider the fact that sections of Gunners fans online (via talkSPORT and the Sun) have slated the German in recent months.
What change? Well, according to Tuttosport via Calcio Mercato, Arsenal are ready to pounce on Inter Milan defender Zinho Vanheusden and have emerged as the favourites to sign the Belgian centre-back ahead of Standard Liege.
With a reported transfer fee of €18 million (£16.1 million) according to Het Nieuwsblad, the teenage defender would command a cheaper transfer fee than what is currently being touted for the likes of Saliba, who ESPN claim will cost Arsenal €25 million (£22.3 million), and because of this, Vanheusden could be a steal.
With a 900% valuation increase on Transfermarkt over the past 12 months, it’s easy to say that Vanheusden has impressed during his time with Liege last season, making 30 appearances in total and keeping eight clean sheets, 11 more matches than Saliba had last season with Saint-Etienne.
With more experience in both a top domestic league as well as on the continent in the Europa League and with a cheaper price tag than Saliba, Vanheusden could be a steal for Arsenal.
