This season again has filled the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern with disappointment although their progression in the Europa League remains to be the only glimmer of hope in their season.
Arsene Wenger has again seen his career on the line with Gunners fans growing ever-more unhappy with the Frenchman in charge. Over the course of the last month mind you, Arsenal have seen a resurgence in form as they now look forward to their Europa League quarter-final clash.
Recently as many will know, Arsenal have added Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the squad who both happen to be former players of Borussia Dortmund. So far, the pair had played well for Arsenal and have drastically improved the team as a whole. With this in mind, our punters see no reason as to why Arsenal shouldn’t buy another Dortmund player, with the name of Julian Weigl doing the rounds here in the bar.
The 22-year-old is a much-improved player this year and has featured predominantly in the heart of midfield for the German side. Thus far, Weigl has made 30 total appearances and with him possessing the option to play as a defensive midfielder or a more box-to-box player, Dortmund have been able to utilise him in both these roles. Arsenal as many know, have struggled for years without a proper defensive midfielder so why can’t Weigl be the answer to their problems?
Given he is valued at £27.00 million on Transfermarkt, Weigl may also be a cheaper alternative to other targets. Able to circulate the ball well in deeper positions, he may not be a brute in the mould many have been crying out for, but he’d stop the opposition stealing the ball and overrunning the Gunners’ midfield as often as it normally is.
Following the success of other Dortmund players arriving at the Emirates, our punters are inclined to agree that Julian Weigl would be a star as well and for many years to come.
