Following last weekend’s loss to Stoke City, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are down in the dumps.
Though their summer was packed with the usual optimism, the Gooners propping up our bar believe many of the problems to have stalled the club’s progress of late are still so painfully evident.
Indeed, reports from the Daily Mirror have done little to pick up the mood amongst our north London locals.
They claim the club could be forced into selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the end of August, should he reject another contract offer. A deal worth around £180kp/w will reportedly be offered, though the report suggests he’s ‘likely’ to reject it.
The England international is believed to want to further his career at both club and country, having struggled for a regular starting for much of his Arsenal career.
While he’s now a starting regular, Arsene Wenger has opted to deploy him as a wing-back, rather than in central midfield. A popular figure in our bar, the Gooners here in the Tavern don’t want him sold.
If ‘The Ox’ manages to realise his potential elsewhere, it’d be a truly gutting sight for everyone connected with Arsenal.
However, if they don’t give him what he wants, it’s hard to blame the Three Lions star for wanting a move away.
