A number of Gooners in the Transfer Tavern are calling for Arsenal to re-sign Cesc Fabregas after the Spaniard was handed limited game time last season.
The man who made over 200 appearances for the Gunners in nearly a decade at the club signed for Spanish giants Barcelona in 2011.
Fabregas became extremely unpopular with the Arsenal fanbase after making the switch from Barca to London rivals Chelsea three years later.
Nevertheless, after starting on the bench for large parts of Chelsea’s title-winning season, some Arsenal fans are hoping he can be tempted away.
A change of heart may be too much for some, but when considering that Mesut Ozil could depart either this summer or next, Fabregas presents a like-for-like replacement for the German.
The midfielder made 29 appearances in the Premier League last season, although 16 of those were as a substitute. Despite a lack of game time he still picked up an impressive five goals and 12 assists last season.
The playmaker is certainly not Conte’s first choice, but while the Blues have just added Timeoue Bakayoko to their side, the Spaniard looks to have fallen further down the pecking order.
Arsenal have a large contingent of playmakers but many would consider Fabregas as an upgrade on the club’s current stars like Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and the long-term injury victims Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.
Is it still a case of ‘once a Gunner, always a Gunner’?
