Champions League winner distances himself from Arsenal managerial position

Oddly enough of late, we’ve seen the Manchester United supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern actually giving advice to their Arsenal counterparts as the two discuss the idea of seeing a long-term manager depart a Premier League giant.

The Red Devils are all too familiar with that idea obviously, with Sir Alex Ferguson having created a vacuum at Old Trafford when he retired in 2013, something the club are still dealing with. With that in mind, it’s little surprise to see their supporters warning our north London locals wanting Arsene Wenger out of the Emirates so quickly.

The Frenchman is a divisive figure at the Emirates, though is so deep-rooted within the fabric of the club, so the idea of him leaving is a difficult one to grasp for many. Still, the fact the Gunners are in their annual malaise has led to many reports surfacing recently in regards to potential replacements.

One of the names suggested has been Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez who, trophy-laden as he may be, hasn’t exactly captured the imagination of the Arsenal fans propping up the bar. So, the Spaniard’s comments in his pre-match press conference distancing himself from a return to London have caused a sigh of relief amongst them.

“I am just concentrating on the Norwich game” said the former Liverpool and Chelsea coach (with quotes sourced by the Chronicle.)

“As a manager you know that people will talk. But the main thing for me is to be sure we are doing well and doing our jobs.”

Would Rafa fit in at Arsenal? Let us know below…
