Zut alors, here’s a good one from the backpages of The Sun! Apparently, Liverpool’s technical director Damien Comolli has targeted 3 of Ligue 1’s finest in a bid to strengthen the Red’s squad for the start of next season. Lyon’s Hugo Lloris, Paris Saint Germain defender Mamadou Sakho and Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila are all supposed to be in the Italian’s sights.
The sheer amount of French based players linked with moves to the Premiership this summer is staggering. Certainly, this is the most that I can remember. In the case of Sakho, this isn’t the first time he’s been linked with a move to the Premiership. Liverpool and Arsenal were said to be interested in him, earlier in the season, though the player himself is adamant that he’s not leaving PSG. We’ve heard that before though, haven’t we!
The move for Lyon goalie Lloris is interesting. Recently, Liverpool were linked with a move for Shay Given, and there has been some doubt around the future of current goalie Pepe Reina. Dalglish has publically denied any rumours that suggest Reina is on his way from Anfield, but if Comolli is organising a move for a keeper like Lloris, then where does that leave the Spaniard?
The final player on Comolli’s list is Stade Rennes’ Yann M’Vila. The midfielder is currently on of France’s hottest players, and interest in him is high across Europe. Such is the demand for the 20 year old international, that Rennes are likely to charge £18 million for him.
The Sun reckons that an approach for all three could end up costing Kenny Dalglish £45 to £55 million, but with the Red’s owner John Henry already committing to spending big, that’s unlikely to be too much of a stumbling block.
Watch this space for the next Ligue 1 star to be linked with a move to the Premiership! France is the new Spain!
