Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern ran to the bar this morning to hear the latest on their contract negotiations, as three players have signed new deals in North London.
However, the names of superstars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez remain absent for the Gunners, who have instead the trio of Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Francis Coquelin down to new contracts.
The Gunners have confirmed the news and it has been met with sheer delight by many Gooners here in the Tavern.
30-year-old forward Giroud has certainly earned a new deal with his fine performances this month, as the former Montpellier striker has found the net in four consecutive matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Francis Coquelin has been a regular in Arsenal’s midfield, with no other midfielder boasting more Premier League appearances than Coquelin’s 17 this season, whilst Koscielny is a crucial member of Arsenal’s back-line.
Whilst we await the full details of the contracts, it’s good news for ageing duo Giroud and Koscielny and cementing Coquelin’s future is also a good piece of news for the Gunners, following the Frenchman’s astronomical rise into the first-team fold.
Our landlord doesn’t believe this will be the end of Arsenal’s contract negotiations this season as discussions with Ozil and Alexis will continue, whilst Per Mertesacker and Santi Cazorla see their current deals expire this summer.
