€15M Bid Imminent For So So Superstar

According to reports from Russian media outlet  RIA Novosti, Free spending FC Anzhi Makhachkala chairman Kerimov is targeting Danko Lazovic and Andrei Arshavin to become the latest Anzhi recruits as the spending shows no sign of stopping.

Anzhi, a club born as recently as 1991, is spiraling upwards in the football world thanks to some heavy financial backing from Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov. Having already captured the likes of former Chelsea utility man Yury Zhirkov and former PSV midfielder Balázs Dzsudzsák, Anzhi continue to state their intentions whilst sitting high up in the Russian Premier League table.

Kerimov has reportedly turned his attentions to two more marquee signings;  the first being prolific Zenit striker Danko Lazovic. The Serbian international has hit top form this season, banging in 9 goals in 13 starts. The nomadic front-man has proved he knows where the net is in Russia and could propel Anzhi even further up the table.

Kerimov’s second target is Arsenal striker/winger Andrei Arshavin, who left Zenit for North London in January 2009. At the time he was the most expensive Russian player in history (he was surpassed by Zhirkov’s ~£18m move to Chelsea) and would still command a large fee. Arsenal would be loathed to lose him considering the constant speculation over Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas but they sleep easy in the knowledge that Arshavin has never strongly intimated that he wishes to leave.

If Anzhi were to pull off these signings, it would significantly strengthen the team and make them a serious force to be reckoned with in the Russian Premier League. The Lazovic signing is concievable, though Zenit won’t want a new rival poaching their best players.

Signing Arshavin, in my opinion, is a long shot. Arsenal would demand a lot of money and be very hostile towards a club trying to unsettle yet another one of their players. There is also no reason to assume Arshavin would want to return to Russia at this moment in time, although players invariably do drift back to their homeland at some stage of their careers.

What do you think of this transfer rumour? Is Arshavin joining Anzhi conceivable? What about Lazovic?
