According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Arsenal are one of several teams keeping a close eye on Jadon Sancho’s development. The 18-year-old currently plays his football at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund having made the move from Manchester City back in the summer of 2017, yet he has recently been proving his worth to Lucien Favre’s side with a string of impressive performances.
And reports suggest that Unai Emery’s Gunners are one side keeping tabs on the £18 million-rated gem (as per Transfermarkt), and the Spaniard must seek to avoid making the same mistake predecessor Arsene Wenger did by luring the highly-rated attacker to the Emirates Stadium.
Ultimately, 18-year-old Sancho left City in 2017 in a bid for the regular football he sought to improve and thus develop into the footballer his potential suggests he can be, and Wenger’s Arsenal were one side reportedly keen on giving him that opportunity in North London.
And as has often been the case down the years, Wenger was unable to get his man through the door with Dortmund coming in and sealing a deal for the Englishman, who has since repaid the faith shown in him by producing several excellent displays for the Bundesliga club.
The 18-year-old, called up to the England senior squad by manager Gareth Southgate for the coming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, started slowly in the German top-flight at the start of last term before finishing very strongly indeed, netting once and laying on three assists in their last six games, and he has built upon that run at the start of this season as well.
Sancho has scored once and laid on seven assists in just seven league games for Favre’s side so far to help them to top spot in the Bundesliga, which is even more impressive given the attacker has only started once – thus, he clearly makes a big impact whenever he is on the pitch.
And while Arsenal aren’t short of quality players in the final third of the pitch, there is little doubting that Sancho could be the man for both the present and indeed the future, what with Emery seeking to build something at the Emirates Stadium.
In the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Mesut Ozil, to name but a few, the Gunners are always going to carry an attacking threat, but Sancho’s arrival would add even more to that area of the pitch – remember, Aaron Ramsey looks set to leave this summer, so further strength would be needed in that department.
And in Sancho, they would have themselves a player who can contribute in the present, and indeed one to potentially build the team around in the future – he looks set for big things in the game.
And having missed out on the 18-year-old under Wenger back in 2017, Emery must seek to rectify his predecessor’s mistake by luring the Englishman to North London.
