Arsenal will feel confident that they can kick on and secure a top four spot in the current campaign, after getting the better of Chelsea at the Emirates on Saturday.
The Gunners haven’t exactly enjoyed the best of times in the Premier League recently, but their victory over London rivals Chelsea was certainly a step in the right direction for Unai Emery’s men.
However, the Spaniard suffered a big setback on the injury front against the Blues at the Emirates, as Hector Bellerin was stretchered off in the 72nd minute after suffering a knee injury.
“It is his knee and the first prediction is it is an important [bad] injury,”
So, with the Spaniard potentially facing a long spell out on the sidelines, it looks as if Emery will need to find a replacement in quick time if they are to build on their last win. The Gunners’ youth system has produced a number of talents over the years, so perhaps he should provide one of the club’s youngsters with the opportunity to impress.
Stephan Lichtsteiner has been a huge disappointment since moving to the Emirates, while Carl Jenkinson has stagnated behind the scenes this season, so Emery should decide against using either player. Also, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has excelled in attacking areas in recent times, so there’s no need to drop him back to right-back.
Although, one player who could step up to the plate and replace Bellerin is Jordi Osei-Tutu.
The 20-year-old has featured in the Premier League 2 four times this season and has one EFL Trophy appearance to his name. However, he was included in Arsenal’s Europa League squad to face Vorskla but he didn’t manage to secure any minutes as he watched the match from the substitutes’ bench.
Indeed, the youngster operates in the same position as Bellerin and has similar attacking qualities to the Spaniard, with his main attributes being his pace, dribbling, tackling and crossing ability. He featured against Boreham Wood in July and has impressed in the Under-23 ranks this season, so Emery should give him a chance.
