Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are going to be in for a busy summer by the looks of things.

It's officially the first day of the Unai Emery era at Arsenal. The majority of the first-team returned to training today which featured new signing, Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Gunners have made three signings so far, and now reports are linking them to Barcelona's Andre Gomes.

The Breakdown

The Independent's Chief Football Writer, Miguel Delaney has reported this afternoon that Unai Emery wants to bring Andre Gomes to Arsenal. According to the report, Emery is willing to sell off players in order to fund a £30 million move for Gomes.

After the three solid signings the club had made, a deal for Andre Gomes would seem a slight risk. The Portuguese international has struggled at the Nou Camp since his arrival from Valencia two years ago.

A talented midfielder, it's never been 100% certain where Gomes fits into the team and indeed their future. Gomes certainly has some talent but whether that same talent would emerge in the Premier League would remain to be seen.

While Arsenal do need some depth and quality in midfield, they also need to bring in some who can partner Xhaka. The Swiss international seems to be fixed on starter in the team following his contract extension and needs who can be a mobile defensive presence next to him. While Gomes would no doubt add some technical ability to the team, future midfield partnership with Xhaka just has visions of both being overrun by a horde of opposition attackers.
