Arsenal picked up a crucial three points at home to Chelsea at the weekend to keep their Premier League top four hopes alive.
The Gunners had lost four of their last eight games prior to the visit from the Blues and the pressure on Unai Emery was mounting. However, Arsenal started superbly and deservedly took the lead through Alexandre Lacazette’s fine finish in the 14th minute. Kepa Arrizabalaga kept Maurizio Sarri’s men in the contest before Laurent Koscielny directed the ball past the Spaniard to secure all three points.
Victory is huge for Emery’s men who moved three points behind their London rivals and back above Manchester United. However, the former PSG boss was dealt another injury blow with Hector Bellerin suffering a serious injury. During his first start for five weeks, the Spaniard collapsed to the ground and could be set to the miss the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem.
With Stephan Lichtsteiner struggling in his absence, landing another right-back could prove to be a wise move from the Gunners. One man they could target is Nantes defender – Enock Kwateng. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the academy graduate has developed into a key player for his side during the current campaign but is yet to sign an extension on his contract that expires in the summer.
Kwateng is a no-nonsense defender who would add some much-needed stability to the back four, averaging an impressive 2.8 tackles per game this season. The 21-year-old also reads the game exceptionally despite his young age, helping him complete 3.8 successful interceptions on average in Ligue 1 (WhoScored). The youngster is still developing and improving – his development would be aided by working with a world-class coach like Emery.
