Euro giants deal Chelsea and Arsenal knockout blow in race for 27-year old assist king

Henrikh Mkhitaryanml

While the Arsenal and Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern will argue about the weather if given the slightest chance, the two sections of punters in tonight may be well advised to console each other.

Clearly, that’s unlikely at best, though there may be reason to be over the next few months.

According to German publication Bild (via the Sun), the capital counterparts are both set to miss out on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer.

The 27-year old has been linked with moves to both North and West London over the past few months as he enters his final 12 months on his deal with the Bundesliga giants.

One of the most potent attackers on the continent, the Armenian international scored 18 goals and recorded a further 20 assists in the season just gone.

However, the Bundesliga giants are reportedly loathe to lose another top star having seen Mats Hummels join arch rivals Bayern Munich already.

It is thought they will try and resist all attempts to lure the former Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker away from Signal Iduna Park.

Will Arsenal win another league title under Arsene Wenger?
