It’s not the first time that Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been optimistic about the new campaign, though there is a feeling that this time it’s different.
The Gunners have impressed over the course of pre-season and their new signings certainly look like improving Arsene Wenger’s ranks, much to the delight of our north London locals. Without the added pressure of Champions League football, the Gunners might just be able to mount a title tilt at long last.
So, adding to the good feelings amongst the Gooners propping up our bar, reports from the Sun have been met with some dancing atop pool tables. Indeed, they claim the club are confident they have made a breakthrough in contract negotiations with Mesut Ozil.
Much has been made about the World Cup winner’s future in recent months and the former Real Madrid man was reported to be leaving on a free next summer, though this story seems to suggest otherwise. The club are understood to be confident the midfielder will accept the £225k-p/w offer, after he and his agents could not find that money elsewhere.
Out of contract next summer, he’s said to have given the impressions he will extend his stay at the Emirates, much to the delight of our resident Arsenal fans.
While Ozil may struggle to get that kind of money anywhere else, that doesn’t mean he’s not a top talent. The Germany star is a huge asset to Arsenal and the idea of him pairing up with Alexandre Lacazette is a seriously exciting one for our north London locals.
