Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we do not miss a trick and we could not let a story that has been reported just about everywhere including The Mirror pass us by. West Ham United’s signing of Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh on loan has certainly caused a stir at Upton Park.
Of course Chamakh is not everyone’s cup of tea, but the reaction he provoked from Jack Sullivan – prolific tweeter and son of David Sullivan is something which will raise eyebrows and certainly make father-son time a little bit awkward tonight.
Sullivan Junior broke the news of the signing, before the club had even confirmed it themselves, but that was not the issue. He tweeted: “I am very sorry about this news Chamakh has sign a 6 month loan deal! not my pick” Of course as our landlord points out such a bold statement may not go down well with his dad and indeed Sam Allardyce who is ultimately the one who wanted the player, and that is not even considering what the player himself makes of such a comment.
Chamakh has not exactly set the world alight at Arsenal but enjoyed something of a formidable spell in French football, and with the injury problems at West Ham he will certainly need to be on top form straight away. There is apparently light at the end of the tunnel for the 28-year-old, with Sullivan also tweeting: “I hope Chamakh can prove me wrong !?!?!?”
