Huge update for Arsenal as journalist reveals major transfer snubs over big money moves

Arsenal fans here in the Tavern are happy to have secured the signing of some quality additions this window, but are hoping that some of their star men will have futures at the club.

The Gunners have been less than convincing in the Premier League this season, as last night’s defeat to bottom side Swansea City just puts into context the kind of season that the London club are having. However, there’s been some developments in terms of a future for one star player at the Emirates that may just shape for a positive second half to the season. As according to ESPN journalist Mattias Karen via his personal Twitter account, Mesut Ozil has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal after turning down numerous other clubs.

Mesut Ozil’s new deal with the Gunners is set to earn him a whopping £12 million a year at the Emirates, as he seeks a long-term future at Arsenal. Indeed, it seemed that the intentions of the German only ever leaned towards a new and improved deal, as the attraction from PSG, Manchester United and a big money move to China was all dismissed by the 29-year-old. Something that could be monumental in the shape of Arsenal’s season, providing a huge morale boost to have kept arguably their biggest star even with their current troubles in North London.

For an Arsenal side that have had to settle for Europa League football for the first time in Arsene Wenger’s reign, being able to tie down a long-term contract for Mesut Ozil, securing a deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has just gone to show that they still can attract some of the world’s biggest talent.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Seeing Ozil sign a new deal is huge for the future progression of the club, as a player that’s been influential in the trophies that Arsenal have secured during his time in North London. A player who has the creativity and vision to unlock any defence, and combined with their recent signings could yet see them be possible title contenders next season. Nevertheless, the ability to fend off big money and some of Europe’s giants will provide a huge boost for fans that believed a drop down in European football would see them miss out.
