‘Hurts watching him play’ – Arsenal fans react as lynchpin issues European rallying call

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by their German defender Shkodran Mustafi. Whilst speaking during a press conference ahead of the game, Mustafi highlighted Barcelona’s failure to qualify for the next round of the Champions League despite winning their home-leg of the tie 4-1, the same scoreline that Arsenal managed against CSKA Moscow last Thursday. You can read more of Mustafi’s comments on the Arsenal website.

Arsenal looked more than convincing last Thursday as they cantered to a 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow at The Emirates. Two goals each from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette look to have killed the tie as Arsene Wenger’s side look forward to tomorrow’s draw for the Europa League semi-finals. Although the Gunners propping our bar up might not feel so confident now, after watching Roma complete an extraordinary comeback on Tuesday night, winning 3-0 in Rome to advance past Barcelona 4-4 on away goals.

The shocking comeback will stand as a warning to Arsenal as they look to avoid falling into the same trap Barcelona did in their away leg. In truth, CSKA Moscow have little in the way of threats when compared to Roma and it should still be easy for the North London outfit to get past them. Arsenal will be throwing all of their eggs into one basket in the Europa League as it stands as their only remaining hope of securing Premier League football for next season after an abysmal Premier League campaign.
