Unai Emery is set for another transfer window with a limited budget if the latest set of reports are to be believed.
The Spaniard must have been desperate to add to his squad during the recent January window but lack of funds meant he was forced to settle for loan deals. Gunners fans are dismayed with the lack of spending after watching their Premier League rivals strengthen significantly in recent windows. Reports in the Mirror suggest Emery will be handed around £40m to bolster his ranks in the summer.
However, his budget will be increased through the sale of various fringe players as well as Mesut Ozil who could be set for a big-money exit after falling out of favour. Emery will be desperate to reinvest the funds into his flailing back four. Defence has once again proven to have been Arsenal’s biggest weakness this season which the former PSG man will aim to address.
One man who could solve his problems is RB Leipzig sensation – Ibrahima Konate. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the France U20 international is the latest star to make his name at the Bundesliga club and could follow Naby Keita in moving to the Premier League. Konate has been a dominant force at the back this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions so far.
The 19-year-old shows maturity well beyond his years meaning he would be perfect for the Gunners. Konate is an excellent defender who loves to get stuck in but also reads the game superbly – he has averaged an impressive 2.4 interceptions in the Bundesliga this season. The physicality of the Premier League should be no problem as Konate has won 3.6 aerial duels on average during the current campaign (WhoScored).
The Frenchman has the potential to be special and his development has been rapid thus far – Konate could prove to be a mainstay in the Arsenal defence for the next decade.
