The Transfer Tavern has been full of praise for a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic of late, ever since the superstar Swede notched a late winner for Manchester United in the EFL Cup final yesterday.
He took his tall up to 26 goals for the Red Devils with a double against Southampton yesterday, allaying fears the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward was too old for the Premier League. In fact, the 35-year-old is looking like he could go on for years.
So it’s amazing to think just how Arsenal came to luring him to England over 15 years before he would eventually join United. As a teenager, the master marksman infamously turned down a trial with the Gunners, instead moving to Ajax when they showed a formal interest in him.
‘Zlatan doesn’t do auditions” as he says.
Well, one of Arsene Wenger’s biggest transfer blunders is now helping arch-nemesis Jose Mourinho up at Manchester United. While his two goals yesterday helped deliver yet another trophy, he’s also brought a winning mentality with him beyond all measure.
As this tweet from SPORF indicates so well.

Amazingly, every year since he snubbed a move to the Emirates, Ibrahimovic has won a trophy with a variety of clubs throughout Europe.
Arsenal, meanwhile, continue to struggle to win literally anything.
