Arsenal need one more signing if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Unai Emery has made some astute purchases so far in the transfer window. Bernd Leno will replace Petr Cech in between the sticks while Sokratis will add some much-needed cover in the absence of Laurent Koscielny. Lucas Torreira gives the Spaniard a solid defensive midfield option to build his team around. However, the Gunners need to sign someone to get fans off their seats at the Emirates.

Signing a new left winger to replace Alexis Sanchez would be a wise move. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have flourished since the Chilean departed, but there remains a gap to be filled on the left blank. Alex Iwobi isn’t the answer, and Emery should show some ambition by bidding for Bayer Leverkusen forward – Julian Brandt.

Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, Brandt enjoyed another terrific season in the Bundesliga. The winger netted nine goals and notched three assists as Leverkusen finished the season in fifth. His performances saw him called up to Germany’s World Cup squad ahead of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.

The 22-year-old is primarily a left winger but is comfortable on the right or as a number ten. With pace and power, Brandt would be a constant threat in the Premier League. Averaging 1.7 key passes per game (WhoScored), Aubameyang would no doubt benefit from his arrival in North London. He is approaching the prime age of development and the time is right to make the switch to England.
