Arsenal’s unbeaten run was extended at the weekend thanks to a sublime acrobatic effort from Lucas Torreira.

Huddersfield defended brilliantly at the Emirates with Arsenal struggling to find a way past their organised defence. It took until the 83rd minute for the deadlock to be broken when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found space in the box before picking out Torreira, who finished brilliantly. The Gunners were able to hold on for all three points and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 21 matches.

The Emirates faithful once again had Unai Emery’s substitutions to thank for changing the game; the Spaniard once again hit the nail on the head with his changes. Arsenal remain on the verge of the Premier League top four and a strong January transfer window would significantly improve their chances of returning to the Champions League. With Nacho Monreal approaching the end of his career, a new left-back should be a priority.

The ideal replacement for the Spaniard would be Real Betis hotshot – Junior Firpo. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the full-back has enjoyed a crucial role in the first-team this season after progressing through the club’s youth academy. Firpo has been ever-present in La Liga, making 14 appearances so far.

The 22-year-old is a constant threat on the left flank, helping his sides’ cause with three goals and one assist in the league this campaign. Firpo is a powerful defender with excellent dribbling ability, averaging 1.7 successful dribbles per game so far. The youngster doesn’t neglect his defensive duties, averaging 1.8 tackles and 1.1 interceptions in La Liga. Despite his inexperience at the highest level, Firpo has all the attributes to be a huge success in the Premier League (WhoScored).

The Spain U21 international would flourish in Emery’s system at the Emirates and give the Gunners a long-term option on the left of defence.
