It’s safe to say that the Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are not happy and that change has to happen in all aspects of the club to make the Gunners great again.
Arsenal have conceded the most goals out of teams in the top six and with sharpshooters Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extremely low on confidence and goals, hopes don’t seem high for the rest of the season. Their defensive back-line needs addressing as a matter of urgency this summer and that can start with the goalkeeping position.
Petr Cech has been a figure of his past self this season and has even been responsible for a number of individual errors. Because of this, David Ospina was brought in and unfortunately for Arsenal, he was just as bad. So where does this leave the Gunners? Well, with Stoke facing the real possibility of getting relegated, their English ‘keeper Jack Butland should be a shot-stopper that Arsenal really consider if they want to stop the leakage of goals.
If it wasn’t for Butland on many occasions then Stoke would defiantly find themselves in a deeper mess to the one they’re already in this season. The 24-year-old has years ahead of him and with his defence in-front of him not offering good enough protection, surely a move to a massive club like Arsenal would bring out the very best of his goalkeeping ability.
Indeed, rated at just £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the England international would be a wonderful signing and someone to guard Arsenal’s net for years, a long-term option they’ve missed in decades.
Arsenal have made a disastrous downturn in recent years, turning themselves from title-contenders to one of the biggest comedy clubs in England. This has to stop and Jack Butland could be the start of a huge summer spending spree to get the Gunners back up to where they belong.
Is Jack Butland the keeper Arsenal need… Thoughts?
