Landing A €12M World Cup Winner Will Be A Tough Task For Premier League Big Guns

Multiple sources are continuing to report that Raul Albiol of Real Madrid is set for a January move to the Barclay’s Premier League – but how likely is it?

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in Spanish & Real Madrid reserve centre-back in recent weeks but according to talkSPORT, Raul Albiol has told supporters he is going nowhere despite being overlooked for the first four league games.

It is the well established formidable pairing of Ricardo Carvalho and Pepe that is keeping him at an arms length from the starting line up at the moment and it doesn’t look like he will receive much playing time over the course of the season.

It is understandable that some of England’s top clubs are looking to land him. Liverpool need to look at replacing Jamie Carragher and whilst Sebastien Coates looks a real defender in the making, the onus is on them to perhaps recruit another to ensure a solid back line. If Raul Albiol were to join Liverpool, he may well become regarded as the best centre-back on Merseyside.

Manchester City welcomed Kolo Toure back from suspension in their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich but beyond Joleon Lescott in reserve, there isn’t much. Finally, Arsenal may have secured Per Mertesacker but they still lack quality at centre-back. Raul Albiol would be a perfect ball playing centre half to their side.

Raul Albiol is clearly a man in demand and he would fit in nicely at any of three aforementioned big guns in the Premier League, but it might be best for him to sit tight. Carvalho is getting older and he’ll hit the wall sooner rather than later meaing Albiol could get his chance for regular first team football if he is patient enough.

Do you think Albiol would be a good signing for a Premier League club? How much is he worth?
