Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are enduring another tough week, after North London derby defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday left their chances of qualifying for the Champions League looking extremely slim.
The Gunners sit six points behind Manchester City, although they have a game in hand, and face another difficult test this weekend as they welcome top-four rivals Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium.
Whatever the results between now and the end of the season, it’s clear Arsenal need to significantly improve their ranks this summer and the Gunners face a stern test to keep hold of their prized assets, as the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are rapidly approaching the final 12 months of their current deals.
Contract talks with all the aforementioned players are currently on-hold until the end of the season, as Arsenal focus on the challenges ahead of them, but The Daily Mail indicates Ozil has demanded a club-record contract worth £300k-a-week.
Arsenal’s current offer of £250k-a-week remains on the table and Arsene Wenger’s side are unlikely to improve that figure, as Ozil has done little to suggest he warrants a higher deal- especially one that would put him amongst the Premier League’s highest earners.
Our landlord has added he feels Ozil is playing a very dangerous game with his demands, as he feels the fans could quickly turn on him and the German World Cup winner has few suitors if he was to be forced out of the club this summer.
Should Arsenal sell Ozil this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
