It's a new era for Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern and it looks as though there could be a few new signings joining the club very soon.

Laurent Koscielny is entering the latter stages of his career and isn't the player he once was. While Arsenal have done well to add a new right-back and goalkeeper, one area that needs strengthening is at centre-back. Shkodran Mustafi continually makes errors and Arsenal need to replace him with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Breakdown

Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the past and the Express did report that he is top of the list of defensive targets for the Gunners.

The Senegalese international - who's valued at £54 million by Transfermarkt -  has become one of the best defenders in Europe since making the move to Napoli from Belgium side KRC Genk. Koulibaly has attracted interest from multiple clubs due to his solid performances and was most recently linked with a move to Chelsea where it's rumoured that Maurizio Sarri wants to make him one of his first signings.

At the back, Arsenal continually struggled and need that one commanding presence at the base of the team. Last season, Arsenal leaked 51 goals, the most of all the top seven teams. If the club want to progress next season, Emery needs to address the centre of his defence.

If Arsenal can bring in Koulibaly, Emery would get his hands on a physical player who has consistently performed at the top level.

While in the future, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding or even recent arrival, Konstantinos Mavropanos may well go on to fill the position, Arsenal need a top quality centre-back to help plug that leaky defence.

Is this the man Arsenal need Gooners?
