Manchester City contact Arsenal regarding deal for midfielder

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing up for what they’re expecting to be a quiet month in the red half of North London, but one particular story has caused a bit of a stir this morning.

The Daily Star reports Manchester City have made contact with the Gunners regarding the services of Jack Wilshere, who is currently on-loan with Bournemouth.

25-year-old Wilshere surprisingly left Arsenal on Deadline Day back in August, seeking more regular football as he battled back from a wealth of injury problems, but his future at the Emirates Stadium remains in doubt.

Wilshere’s current deal has just 18 months left to run and whilst Arsene Wenger has indicated the England international will get a new contract, the player himself is likely to want first-team assurances before he puts pen to paper.

With Arsenal boasting the likes of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey amongst their midfield ranks, Wilshere faces a wealth of competition for a starting spot at Arsenal next season and that could force his hand.

Manchester City are not the only Premier League side interested in Wilshere’s services as The Sunday People reported over the weekend that Everton were also monitoring the situation.

Our landlord feels Arsenal won’t sell to a Premier League rival, as it would cause mutiny, but he does believe Wilshere holds the bargaining chip when it comes to his future.

Will Jack Wilshere still be an Arsenal player next season? Let us know in the comments below!
