The Daily Mail has reported that two of England’s brightest prospects could be heading up to Manchester for pastures new. Chelsea starlet Connor Hunte who has been likened to Mesut Ozil is being heavily linked to Manchester City, whilst Arsenal and Manchester United battle it out for the signature of highly rated Crewe midfielder Max Clayton.
Chelsea will be keen to keep hold of Hunte who has impressed during his time at the Cobham Academy and according to the staff there, he is destined for greatness. But they will struggle to keep him, as Man City are very keen to land the England U17 international, and are believed to step up with a formal offer soon.
Crewe Striker Max Clayton is the latest player to emerge from the prestigious Gretsy Road Academy, and has been likened to Michael Owen due to his movement in and around the box. The 18 year old has played for England at every level from under 16 and is regularly watched by a host of Premier League Scouts. He was brought Arsene Wenger’s attention by former assistant coach, now scout, Pat Rice who has highly recommended him for a January transfer. Although he could be tempted by a reunion with former teammate Nick Powell at Old Trafford.
Crewe boss Steve Davis has been keen to address the situation as simply speculation but he does expect him to move on soon. But given his talents he will only move where he is guaranteed first team football.
We will have to wait and see if these players can reach their potential with the bar already set impossibly high. All we can say for now is that the future looks bright for Hunte and Clayton and there respective clubs.
